Plans for the Future

The building of Don Bosco Pasil is now almost 40 years old and is in need of repair. Being situated right next to the sea has not helped as there are now many large cracks within the walls and the salt in the air has corroded much of the roof and other metal parts. There are large holes in the cement which is erroding where the children play every evening and it has been in this condition for the last 12 years.

We need a covered court and improved facilities because: 

• the children deserve somewhere where they can play and be comfortable no matter what the weather
• when it rains the space available for children to play in is considerably reduced 
• special activities have to be altered if there is bad weather as the roof leaks
• electrical equipment such as lights and sound systems are in danger of being broken by water damage during the activities if it is raining
• the trainees have to sit their exams under the gym roof in the rain often and with it leaking upon them whilst they are trying to concentrate 
• the project will also give proper ventilation to the classrooms and technical shops for the trainees
• the surface of the court has lots of holes and is very slippy in places causing people to fall and hurt themselves when they should be able to play safely 
• there is insufficient drainage so when it rains heavily the whole floor becomes covered in water 

Plans for the total repair of the center have been developed entitled 'Rehabilitation of Facilities of Don Bosco Pasil to Support Preventative Programs for the Youth'. The project seeks to provide a venue for recreation and development to young people at risk of drugs and vices in heavily congested Pasil. Over a two year time period the project seeks to rehabilitate the Training Center building 1, and the Covered Court of Don Bosco Pasil to attract young people to wholesome development activities and veer them away from drugs, gambling and other vices.
The plans have been approved, but now the funds needed to complete the renovations need to be found.
